Microstructural characterisation of highly porous ceramic material

Highly porous ceramic foams and cellulose derived ceramics with an overall porosity > 50 % were characterized by X-Ray µCT, figure 12. A cylindrical sample geometry and three different section planes (plane yx, plane yz, plane zx) were examined. For analysis 200 2D-slices with a dimension of 200 to 200 pixel and a resolution of 30 µm / pixel with a µCT-scanning axis in z-direction (scanning plane: yx), leading to sample dimensions of 6000 x 6000 x 6000 µm3, were applied. The results of the fractional density distribution for each cutting plane are shown in followoing figures.
